A CONTINGENT of six from Brunei comprising Chef de Mission, two athletes, two coaches and one secretary departed for Baku, Azerbaijan yesterday to take part in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games 2017.
Present at the Brunei International Airport to see off the contingent was Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Haji Noor Jusmin also took the opportunity to give encouraging words and advice to the contingents prior to their departure.
Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Zulkifli bin Pengiran Haji Ismail, Director of the National Service Programme was appointed as the Chef de Mission, and Bakhtiar bin Haji Buntan, Senior Staff of Youth and Sports as the secretary.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games will be held from May 12-22. Participating for the third time, Brunei will compete in the Male 200m Athletic and the Kumite 60kg Karate events. The coach and athlete for the Male 200m Athletic event are Isidro Del Prado, National Athletic Sports Coach, and Mohd Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid bin Haji Md Idris respectively. While the Kumite 60g Karate event will be represented by Muhd Fida’iy bin Haji Sanif, Okhida Simangasing is the coach.
In the previous Islamic Solidarity Games which was held in Palembang, Indonesia, Brunei bagged one silver for the Men’s Duilllian Wushu event through Md Sufi Shayiran bin Roslan and Mohammad Adi Sya’rani bin Roslan.
