AKARIVA ‘A’ emerged winners of the Radio Television Brunei (RTB) Futsal Championship in conjunction with their 60th year anniversary after edging Necas FT 1-0 in a thrilling final at the UBD Sports Complex yesterday. OB ‘A’ and Transmitter shared joint third place.
Akariva ‘A’ advanced to the knock-out stages after topping Group ‘A’ with 12 points to their name while beaten finalists Necas FT also clinched top spot in Group ‘B’ with 13 points.
Akariva ‘A’ booked their spot in the final after defeating OB ‘A’ 2-1 in the last four while Necas FT survived the lottery of a penalty shoot-out against Transmitter to reach the final.
Organised by the Radio Services Section, the tournament was held for the first time and will be made as an annual event in the coming years.
The objectives of the competition were to strengthen closer ties among the RTB community and served as a selection process for players to represent the department in the ministry-level competition.
A total of 12 teams from RTB units took part in the competition. Aside from RTB staff, attachment students who have been placed in RTB also took part.
There was also an individual accolade with Azrinie bin Haji Abdul Kahar of Necas FT scooping the top scorer award.
Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, Director of RTB, presented the prizes.
