A 71 Times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s upcoming 71st birthday celebration, in selected mosques throughout the country yesterday after a mass Asar prayer.
The ceremony was part of the continuation on the launching of the nationwide 71 Times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for the mukim and village consultative councils and students last month as a monitoring ceremony on the reading of verses of the Al-Quran.
In Brunei-Muara District, the monitoring ceremony was conducted at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
The guest of honour was Captain (Rtd) Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
Also present were members of the Legislative Council, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, heads of departments and senior officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, mukim penghulus, village heads, members of the mukim and village consultative councils as well as officers and staff members at Brunei-Muara District Office.
This year, 692 participants have been selected to participate in the 71 Times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.
The ceremony began with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour followed by the reading of verses of Al-Quran. The ceremony concluded with a special prayer seeking Allah the Almighty’s blessing for His Majesty’s good health.
The annual religious ceremony also served as a platform for citizens to express their gratitude to Allah the Almighty for blessing the country with peace and prosperity under the leadership of His Majesty.
