THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday held a ceremony at the Bolkiah Garrison to witness the distribution of dates (kurma) for personnel of MinDef and Bolkiah Garrison for the year 1438H/2017.
The dates are a personal gift from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah presented the ‘Kurma Kurnia Peribadi’ to the Joint Force Commander, RBAF, military directors, heads of departments, officers and representatives of directorates and departments under the administration of the MinDef.
In his speech, the RBAF Commander reminded recipients to be sincere in distributing the dates to their respective subordinates, departments and units ahead of Ramadhan, at the same time to be trustful in honouring their commitments.

Joint Force Commander, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, commandants, military directors, denior officers and officers of the RBAF attended the event.
This year, 154 metric tonnes of dates – supplied by Al Madinah Dates Company in Saudi Arabia – will be distributed to Muslims nationwide.
The first day of Ramadhan will be determined by the sighting of the moon on May 26.
Meanwhile, RBAF organised several events preparing its personnel for the fasting month, which included a seminar to raise awareness on the safe and effective ways to conduct physical training during Ramadhan.
