THE Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Prime Minister’s Office and the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism have set the maximum prices (ceiling prices) for several food items in view of the upcoming festival season.
The revised maximum prices of these selected food items will come into effect from 1 Ramadhan until 7 Syawal of 1438 Hijrah.
The objective of setting the price ceiling is to control the prices of food items that are used as the main ingredients of food prepared during the festive season.
The initiative is also hoped to assist low income earners in their preparation for the upcoming Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The selected food items are whole chicken, eggs, butter; margarine, ghee, condensed, evaporated and cream milk, flour, chocolate hazelnut spread, condensed, cream and powder santan, chilli shrimp floss; and popia skin.
Whole chicken weighing 1kg has a maximum price of B$4.30 while Malaysia’s QBB Pure Ghee in 150g can costs B$3.20. One kilogramme packet of Prima Top Flour from Singapore has its price set at B$2.55 and a 500g packet of Flying Man Rice Flour, also from Singapore, is B$1. A 180g bottle of Glory Chilli Shrimp Floss from Singapore will cost B$3.35.
Members of the public who have any queries on the price list can contact the Consumer Affairs Division of JPKE directly using the mobile application ‘SmartConsumer’ or via telephone 2230223 (during office hours); email: consumercomplaint@jpke.gov.bn; or on Facebook: www.facebook.com/AduanPenggunaJPKE.
The public can also direct complaints to the Consumer Affairs Division Office at room 3.06, Level 3, West Wing of JPKE at block 2A, Ong Sum Ping road, BA1131.
JPKE advised the public to practise the concept of ‘Smart Consumer’ by comparing prices before making any purchase to get the best price.
