TERAJA Labi Longhouse Committee members were recently involved in a clean-up and clearing of trees blocking the path to Teraja Waterfall in Labi.
Burong Nyanggau led the campaign. The effort has trimmed down to 30 minutes the journey to Teraja, from the previous 45 – 60 minutes trip.
Tourists must first report to the relevant authorities, such as the police, before setting off to the Teraja longhouse or the forested areas surrounding Kampong Teraja in Labi.
Activities and businesses have been set up to accommodate visitors, including the accommodation programme @Inap Desa, traditional cooked chicken in bamboo, cultural demonstration, handicraft-making, jungle-trekking, bird watching and a night safari.
Tourists visiting Kampong Teraja have helped grow the ‘One Village, One Product’ (1K1P), which helps the economy in terms of tourism. This also means that the local community is able to develop its eco-tourism and sustainable progress under the ‘Community Based Ecotourism’ (CBET).
The Kampong Teraja longhouse is co-operating with ‘Sakam Adventure,’ a local company, to provide tourists greater convenience. In January alone, over 200 tourists, local and foreign, registered for a visit.
