CHINA Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) hosted some 35 autistic members from the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei to a boat cruise along the Brunei River on Thursday, as part of its commitment in giving back to the community.
According to the China-based infrastructure construction company, apart from fulfilling their corporate social responsibility commitment, the activity was also held to commemorate Children’s Day which was celebrated in China on Thursday.
The SMARTER Brunei members were joined by their teachers and also employees of CHEC during the cruise, where they had the opportunity to take a closer look at the bridge construction in the Brunei River and scenic places.
CHEC said the activity follows their contribution of a playground for SMARTER Brunei last year. “We want to make these children happy and have fun through the boat cruise and we want to share happiness with them and this is especially meaningful for the month of Ramadhan,” according to Shu Jing Zhou, Administration Manager at CHEC.
The children were presented with gifts from the company and food to take home and break fast with their families.
Joining the cruise were CHEC’s Project Director, Zhang Shuaijun and SMARTER Brunei’s President Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman.
CHEC is spearheading the construction of the 2.7km sea-crossing Pulau Muara Besar Bridge that will link the mainland to Pulau Muara Besar where new industrial developments are planned. As well as traffic, the bridge will carry a network of utilities.
