HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday graced the National Israk Mikraj Celebration for 1437 Hijrah held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Upon arrival at the ICC, His Majesty and members of the royal family were greeted by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Executive Committee for the celebration of major Islamic events of 1437 Hijrah, as well as other members of the committee.
The religious ceremony began with a recitation of verses from the Al-Quran by Mosque Affairs Officer at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Jumaat, while the meaning of the verses was delivered by a religious officer of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Haji Haris bin Suboh.

In his welcoming remarks, the Minister of Religious Affairs highlighted that to further enliven this year’s Israk Mikraj celebration, the Ministry of Religious Affairs through its departments and sections is coordinating several side events such as Bengkel Kesempurnaan Sembahyang (workshop on the perfecting of prayers).
The activities will be handled by the Islamic Eminence Development Section and will be designated to the Section 2 and below officers and staff at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and other ministries.
Furthermore, a mass Subuh prayer campaign will also be held at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide simultaneously with focuses at Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kampong Jerudong, the RPN Kg Pandan Mosque in Kuala Belait, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong, Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Temburong and RPN Lambak Kanan Mosque. The campaign will be coordinated by the Department of Mosque Affairs.
The minister added that a briefing on the Obligation in Paying Zakat (tithe) and how to pay it (Taklimat Kewajipan Mengeluarkan Zakat dan Panduan Mengeluarkannya) will be handled by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council where the target audience would be uniformed personnel, civil servants as well as representatives from Islamic companies.
His Majesty then consented to deliver a titah.
A special lecture titled ‘Sembahyang Kunci Syurga’ (prayers are keys to heaven) was delivered by the Acting Deputy State Mufti Dr Haji Mazanan bin Haji Yusof, followed by a Nasyid performance by youths from the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque, Mukim Sengkurong and Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque in Serusop.
A Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti, to conclude the event.
