AHMAD Taufiq Murni moved into the last 32 of the 2017 Pudong Tangcheng World 9-Ball China Open after recording a 9-5 victory over Kong TeJing and a hard-fought 9-8 win against Dang Jin Hun in the preliminary rounds at the Pudong Tangzhen Culture & Sports Center in Shanghai, China yesterday.

The country’s top ranked cueist moved into the last 32 which included the world best players such as former world champions Thorsten Hohmann, Ralf Souquet and Mika Immonen.

Taufiq, who is setting his sights for another major competition later this year, did not require a second invitation of advancing to the next round with the matches having played in a double elimination format.

Sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association, the competition gathered players from over 30 countries and regions.

The competitors advancing from the preliminary rounds including Taufiq, will be joined in the main draw by the world’s top 16 male and top eight female players.

Ahmad Taufiq, who started the year with triumph in the BCSA National 9-Ball Ranking Challenge Grand Final 2016, had been drawn in Group ‘G’ on Thursday before winning his second match yesterday to book his place in the top 32.

The field will be trimmed down to four players at the end of today’s session with the remaining competitors poised to return tomorrow for a place in the final.
