THE number of abandoned vehicles on the roadside continues to increase, despite the recent move to remove them by the municipal departments and district offices across the country.

One of the recurring problem spots is the Gadong commercial area, where many have voiced out their concerns regarding several abandoned cars, which they say are diminishing the quality of the local environment, besides being an eyesore on roads and in public places.

The increase in deserted vehicles has also been attributed to a number of workshop owners, who are ignoring warning letters issued by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department to clean up their business premises and the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, members of the public have been urged to take on a more proactive role, by reporting any abandoned vehicles in sight to the Land Transport Department.

Penghulus and village heads have also been asked to cooperate, by monitoring their respective neighbourhoods and urging irresponsible motorists to remove or relocate their vehicles.
