SOME 21 ladies from the Brunei Darussalam Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) will compete in the 2017 Masters Fastpitch Softball Tournament at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand from July 20-23.

The team will be led by Zaitul Rasinah binti Haji Mohd Zaidi as the Team Manager, Mardinata bin Haji Suhaili as the Head Coach and Assistant Coach Pengiran Mohd Ashraf bin Pengiran Ahmad Damit.

In an interview with the Bulletin, Zaitul said the team has been preparing since early this year but started training intensively since April every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

“We organised weekly friendly matches every week with other ladies teams especially on Sundays at the Softball Pitch at the Jerudong Sports Complex.

“This sport requires agility in body and foot movement, so stamina is one of the biggest factors for each athlete. We emphasised players to do more fitness activities and encouraged them to practice a healthy diet.

Commenting on their previous achievements, the team manager said, “We had the biggest achievement last year winning the bronze medal in the Masters Tournament in Jakarta. We will try our best to retain or get better results this year.

“We have new potential players this year, so by combining them with experienced players, I believe we can achieve more. I can see potential from game plays from the past few months and I am confident that our team can go against other Asean teams in Bangkok soon.

“Japan and Hong Kong will also be participating in this tournament and there are high chances they will be represented by their senior players.

“But I am confident that our Brunei Ladies Masters can perform their best, with their high spirits, sacrificing their time, money and sweat to make this a fruitful journey and make their country proud.”

Zaitul also thanked BASBA for their support for both the men and ladies softballs team.
