THE higher committee of the National Pencak Silat Federation Brunei Darussalam (PERSIB) held a meeting with organisations affiliated with PERSIB nationwide for the first time at the Sports Village in Berakas yesterday.
The federation also announced that the national level competition in conjunction with the 71st Birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will be held from July 21-26 with the opening ceremony slated on July 22 and the closing ceremony on July 26.
The district level championship for the Brunei-Muara District will be held from July 7-9 at the Menglait Sports Complex.
The main focus of the meeting was to provide latest and current updates concerning the development of pencak silat in the country.
In addition, all four districts will be staging championships in cakak asli and kuntau to earn the right to participate in the national level.
President of PERSIB, Pengiran Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Ludin said that the first focus was to hold the district level and national level championship with the former to be organised by the respective district committees.
The national level competition is hoped to be enlivened and intensified based on popular tradition.
The second focus on engaging the organisations centred towards several preparations in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Currently, Brunei-Muara District has 15 organisations, Belait District has four, Tutong has one and Temburong has two organisations.
The PERSIB higher committee also said that the six categories which will be contested enabled opportunities for the organisations to compete.
The higher committee also said that the participant will initially start with a 100 per cent record at the time of competition which will be deducted once the errors have been considered.
During the competition, individuals who have the best technique will be awarded.
