One dead as house catches fire

A 50-YEAR-OLD man was burnt to death after being trapped in the bedroom on the ground floor of his two-storey house at Kampong Pengkalan Mau, Jalan Kuala Abang, Mukim Kiudang which caught fire yesterday.

Mohd Saiful bin Haji Mohd Salleh’s body was found by firefighters.

After receiving a call at 11.58am, the Fire and Rescue Department dispatched a fire engine with four personnel from the Lamunin Fire Station, led by DSO Hisyhamuddin.

Another fire engine from the Tutong Fire Station with two personnel was also sent to assist in fire fighting operations.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters who saw the two-storey house engulfed in fire, managed to control it within three minutes.

Two residents of the house, Hajah Surani binti Haji Mohd Salleh and Molinah binti Haji Mohd Salleh were unharmed.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, initial investigations revealed unattended cooking had led to the fire. The estimated loss amount is approximately $20,000.
