BRUNEI Men’s National Basketball Team came in second spot of the Men’s Category at the 19th Borneo City Invitational Basketball Tournament in Miri after winning their second match of the tournament by disposing Labuan 50-76.
The team led by coach Xavier Fong nearly won the championship if only Kota Kinabalu had beaten Miri team with the point difference less than 20.
However, the Kota Kinabalu team defeated Miri 90-70 and managed to snatch the championship from Brunei.
Coach Xavier Fong Yen Leong expressed his satisfaction and was very proud of the team for clinching second place.
“My team is the champion in my heart. I am very proud of my team for getting second place. I see there are also a lot of potential in the team,” the national coach said.
He hopes the team will continue to train hard to be ready for next year’s tournament and make Brunei proud.
Brunei will become the host for the 20th Borneo City Invitational Basketball Tournament. Yesterday saw Ang Han Then, Deputy Chairman of Brunei Basketball Association receiving the tournament flag from a Miri representative.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Women’s Team settled for third place, and the Brunei Veteran Team finished fourth in the tournament.
