SEPARATE Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremonies took place between Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), represented by its rector, Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, and Russian bodies name-ly Russia Muftis Council (RMC), Islamic University of Kazan (IUK), Russian Islamic Institute (RII), Council of Islamic Education (CIE) and Moscow Internati-onal Higher Business School (MIRBIS).
On behalf of RMC, the MoU was signed by its Deputy Chairperson Rushan Hazrat Abbyasov in the presence of Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Russia Haji Haini bin Haji Hashim. The signing took place at the RMC office in Moscow.
The visit by the UNISSA rector to Russia was on the initiative and invitation from RMC through the Russian embassy in Brunei Darussalam to have cooperation relation in education, particularly Islamic studies, between both nations.
The MoU signing with IUK, RII, and CIE, represented by Dr Rafik Muhametshin who holds the Rector and Chairperson portfolio, took place in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia; a town that has an Islamic civilisation history of its own.
Both parties agreed to have strategic cooperation through student, teaching force and academic programme development exchanges.

The MoU signing with MIRBIS took place at the institute which saw its chairperson Dzhomart Aliev signing on its behalf. MIRBIS has produced business leaders both inside and outside Russia.
During the meeting with MIRBIS, the UNISSA rector welco-med cooperation in fields such as Islamic economics, Islamic banking, Islamic administration and Halal research.
The rector also hoped to send qualified UNISSA business programme students through the study abroad programme for one or two semesters.
While in Moscow, the UNISSA rector also had the opportunity to pay visits to Haji Haini and Kazan Mufti Sahibus Samahah Sheikh Kamil Sami’ullah.
