KAMPONG Bang Taong Longhouse recently opened its doors to over 200 guests during a three-in-one event marking Hari Raya, the closing of Hari Gawai celebrations, and Family Day.
Track and Field Supervisor from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Gaung Jamit attended as the guest of honour.
Also in attendance were Asia Enterprise (AE) Managing Director Chai Yum Fatt and Chiam Engineering Construction Managing Director Chiam Toon Kwang.
In his speech, event chairperson Muhammad Salim bin Abdullah Omping expressed gratitude to attendees for making the long trip just to be part of the event.
The guest of honour mirrored this sentiment in a following speech.
One guest, who was accompanied by her family, said she had been invited by a Kampong Bang Taong Longhouse resident, and described the experience as unforgettable.
“The rich Iban culture is truly unique,” she added.
The day also saw Chai Yum Fatt and Chiam Toon Kwang handing over donations in the form of basic necessities to 14 single mothers and senior citizens from the long house.
Various activities were lined up for the celebration including singing and sport activities for the young and old.
The event allowed the longhouse residents the opportunity to showcase their rich, unique Iban culture, various traditional dances and handicraft made by residents.
The annual celebration gathers friends and families under one roof to share in the festivities collectively.
