PROVIDING entrepreneurial opportunities to youths is required to produce strong and independent individuals to lead the Asean community.
This was stated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, during the AMMY X and Plus 3 in Jakarta, Indonesia, chaired by Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Youth and Sports Indonesia recently.
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi highlighted the Asean Action Plan for the youth 2016-2020, measures to ensure continued success of young entrepreneurs and the need to create a cooperation network with other successful entrepreneurs.
He also highlighted the continuous support for the Youth Development Index (YDI) to measure Asean achievements in youth development. The YDI measures the welfare of the youth in areas such as education, health, employment, values and identity.
Asean expressed gratitude to the Governments of the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea that offered youth ex-change programmes to engage youths in character building activities to develop leadership skills.
Bruneian youth, Nurizzatul Izzah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, received the Asean Youth Award (AYA).
Meanwhile, Amal Nis-yyah binti Haji Mulok, a representative of the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT), received the Asean Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations (TAYO).
Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Brunei Ambassador to Indonesia and Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports were also present at the event.
