THE opening ceremony for the Silat Competition in conjunction with the 71st birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was recently held at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.
Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports launched the opening ceremony with the unsheathing of the ‘Keris’.
The opening also saw the declarations of oath by referee led by Suzana binti Haji Shahperi, and Qistina Athirah binti Zainal for the athletes.
The guest of honour was introduced to teams from all districts, and he also witnessed the ‘Pembukaan Gelanggang’ or Arena Opening performance by Cikgu Dua bin Haji Garip.
The competition will conclude on July 26.
