THE Belait residents were recently treated to a Pentarama performance night organised by the Information Department in celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 71st birthday.
Held at the stage which was erected alongside the night market in Tudung Saji, Kuala Belait, the Pentarama – a portmanteau for ‘Pentas Drama’ (stage drama) – was organised by the department with the aim of spreading positive messages on education, nationalism and religion among community members in the district.
The event’s guest of honour was YB Hanapi bin Mohd Siput, the Legislative Council (LegCo) member representing the Belait District and the Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labi.
Also present was Hajah Noorashidah binti Haji Aliomar, the Acting Director of Information.
There were various performances which began with the traditional ‘Jipin Dindang Disayang’ dance, followed by a group medley performance of the theme song ‘Pentarama’ and ‘Dirgahayu’ by local artistes.
A short drama was also conducted onstage entitled ‘Kasih Ibu Di Lupa Jangan, Berpijaklah Di Bumi Yang Nyata’ by the Information Department’s sketch group.
This year’s Pentarama also saw various Information Department employees who were top winners of a recent talent competition performing at the venue.
They include Hasrina, Andie Othman, Amiruddin and popular local comedian Dang Kasum, to name a few.
In addition to the performances, a short quiz session was also held for the audience to participate in.
Pentarama is conducted for the general public to enjoy and, having already conducted performances in the Belait and Brunei-Muara Districts, the group is also scheduled to make stops in Tutong and Temburong on July 26 and 29 respectively.
