TABUAN ‘A’ successfully retained the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Under-16 Elite Youth Cup title after beating Tabuan ‘B’ 3-1 at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
Tabuan ‘B’ took a surprise lead after Md Danish Shah Behrom Shah opened the scoring in the 18th minute but Md Shafiq Hidayat Al Azim Shahrizam brought Tabuan ‘A’ into level terms seven minutes later.
Md Addy Zaky Billah, the hero in the Cambodia win at the AFF Under-15 Youth Championship recently, put his side’s noses in front in the 52nd minute before Md Aminuddin extended Tabuan ‘A’s lead in the 69th minute.
“Our players concentrated during the final on doing what we practiced during training,” said Tabuan ‘A’ Assistant Coach Muhd Eddie Fakhri Ajun Abdullah in a post-match interview.
“We have been having some really good training sessions, and they paid off,” he added.
Md Aminuddin also won the Man of the Match award and the Top Scorer award after scoring 11 goals in the tournament which began April 28.
The guest of honour at the closing ceremony was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who also presented prizes to the players and officials.
