THE development of children must be improved as new research reports rapid growth of children in the first four years.

This was stated by Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports during the launch of KindyKare International yesterday.

According to the permanent secretary, every daycare centre needs to have an organised programme to ensure that the development of children is given positive support and stimulation in a safe and conducive environment.

She added that she is confident that the playing approach practised in advanced countries is the best suitable approach to be applied in the country.

Studies conducted in advanced countries for the past four decades have also shown that positive experiences during the early stages of child development instils a positive learning attitude at primary, secondary and university level.

Studies have shown that children attending daycare centres, providing high quality programmes, do not need remedial intervention throughout their schooling period.

The permanent secretary urged other daycare centres to not be too passionate with formal learning activities to the extent of giving children big amounts of homework or anything unsuitable to their development.

Meanwhile, Datin Dr Hajah Asmah binti Haji Morni, Founder and Executive Director KindyKare International, in her speech noted that KindyKare implements a programme, keeping international standards, both in its pedagogy of using the ‘learning through play’ approach or curriculum that practises fun activities.

The centre has facilities relevant to the needs of children development that includes toys, sand and water play area and a spacious and conducive outdoor playground.
