7th Lof Cycling Challenge this Sunday

A RECORD high of some 350 cyclists including from overseas will be competing 7th Lof Cycling Challenge 2017 that is scheduled to flag off on this Sunday in the heart of the capital.

Details of the annual event was announced yesterday in a press conference held at the Modesto Food Arena, Seri Qlap Mall. On hand to chair the press conference were Omar Ali Ibrahim Secretary General of Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation with Assistant Secretary Haji Ruzaimi bin Haji Rosli as well as Richard Neo, the founder of Lof Bakery as well as Haji Wahab, technical officer.

Held in conjunction of the 71st birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the 7th Lof Cycling Challenge is organised by The Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation and supported by the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and sponsored by Lof Bakery Sdn Bhd.

This year saw a total of 31 teams taking part in the competition, which is the highest participation since the first edition.

According to Omar Ali Ibrahim, Secretary General of Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation, there are also participation from Malaysia, France and Columbia.

The categories contested are Men’s Veteran, Men’s Novice and Women’s Open Individual Race that covers 100km while the Men’s Super Elite, Men’s Elite and Men’s Master Team and Individual Road Race will cycle a gruelling 135km.

Prizes awaiting the podium finishers in each category includes a challenge trophy.

The race is expected to be flaged off around 9.30am and the organiser had seek the assistance of the Royal Brunei Police Force to control the traffic on the route which will cover Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, Junjongan, Mentiri, Sungai Tilong, Telanai and so on.

The competition is expected to be completed in four hours and road users are urged to be mindful of the cyclists.
