TO ENLIVEN the celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 71st birthday, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) yesterday once again held a 71 Times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.
The event which took place at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah was held as a special gift from the ministry’s workforce to the caring monarch.
It was also conducted to pray to Allah the Almighty for the longevity of the ruler as well as the well-being and prosperity of the monarch, people and nation.
Present at the ceremony was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud; the Permanent Secretary at the MoRA, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof; Deputy Permanent Secretaries Haji Harun bin Haji Junid and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, as well as officers and staff of the ministry.
Some 2,130 of the ministry’s officers and staff members comprising 46 male and 25 female groups were involved in the recitations ceremony yesterday.
The event also coincided with a Doa Selamat recitation for intending pilgrims who will soon visit the holy land. This year, some 48 people from the ministry will perform the Haj, comprising 20 male and 28 female pilgrims.
