HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) yesterday consented to receive in audience General Surapong Suwana-Adth, Chief of Defence Forces, Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF).
Present at the audience ceremony were First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence; Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the Commander of the RBAF; Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence; and Biravij Suwanpradhes, the Ambassador of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam.
Meanwhile, in a separate audience at the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam also consented to receive in audience Vanvimol Suwana-Adth, the spouse of the RTARF Chief of Defence Forces. She was accompanied by Pengiran Datin Nuur’Izzah Nabilah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad Mahdi Al-Sufri, the spouse of the Commander of the RBAF.
In 1999, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand signed an agreement to cooperate in areas of training, human resource development and exchange of visits, in which defence has grown to be an important part of the overall bilateral ties.
The goodwill visit by General Surapong Suwana-Adth aims to further strengthen the professional bilateral ties and defence cooperation between the two armed forces.
The audience ceremony took place at the Istana Nurul Iman.
