BRUNEI Lawn Bowls athletes are ready for the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, said Head Coach, Lokman bin Haji Mohd Salleh at the Lawn Bowls Arena of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday.
Sixteen athletes will represent Brunei Darussalam comprising six ladies and 10 men. The men will compete in the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Men’s Triples and Men’s Fours, while the ladies will compete in the Ladies Singles and Ladies Triples.
The athletes have been chosen through their achievements from the past two years in international and regional games.
“We won Gold by Abdul Rahman and Bronze by Amaliah during the Pre-SEA Games period in July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These are the teams that will be playing in the SEA Games, so we do have a prediction on the matches and hope our athletes will be well-disciplined and consistent during play,” Lokman said.
“I hope the athletes will continue to train, be mentally and physically fit, perform their best and shine during the SEA Games.
“We have placed our trust in them and they are ready to go against other teams.
“Our toughest rival is team Malaysia, they are a strong team but Insya Allah, we will do our best and use our best techniques.
“There are different factors to this game, like playing in a different arena, where the grounds are not the same like ours, and also climate and weather factors, where wind can also interfere with the ball’s momentum. We need to use our skills to know the factors and try to overcome them,” said the head coach.
