MEMBERS of the public yesterday got the opportunity to learn more about ‘Ikebana,’ the Japanese art of flower arranging during a demonstration and workshop held at the Times Square Shopping Centre in Berakas.
Held in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, the demonstration was led by distinguished Ikebana Master Risho Saito, who is a member of the Sogetu Teachers’ Association and is the Sogetsu Yamaguchu branch manager.
Application to participate in the activities has since closed, however, individuals keen on observing the workshop are welcome to the Atrium of the Times Square Shopping Centre from 5pm to 6.30pm today. The Ikebana demonstration will be held at 4pm.
Ikebana is a distinctive and traditional Japanese art in which flowers and plants are specially arranged in a vase for appreciation. The activity is similar to flower arrangement, but there are a number of differences that sets it apart. For instance, while flower arrangement uses flowers primarily, Ikebana also makes use of grasses, trees and many different kinds of plants.
