SMSAB champs of Malay debate competition

SAYYIDINA Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMSAB) emerged as the champion in the 45th Malay Language Debate Competition for Secondary Schools and Colleges.

The final competition between SMSAB and St Andrew’s School took place yesterday at the multi-purpose hall of Rimba II Secondary School.

The event began with the singing of the national anthem followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat.

A welcoming remark was delivered by Hajah Siti Khadijah binti Haji Damit, Co-Chairperson and also the Principal of Rimba II Secondary School.

Prizes were presented by the guest of honour, Nadia Lee Siew Hoon binti Abdullah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education.

The prize for Best Debater went to Nurfazillah binti Abdullah Shahibol Rizal from Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School.

A total of 16 schools participated in the initial stage of the competition.

The competition was aimed at enhancing thinking skills and the proper techniques of stating arguments and factual views spontaneously among the participants.

In addition, the competition also hoped to produce more generation of debaters especially among youths and produce scholars in line with the nation’s Vision 2035 to have a highly-skilled and educated society.
