HIS Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik yesterday called on grassroots leaders in the country to give more cooperation and uphold their responsibilities in ensuring the that all Muslim households in the country receive their share of the ‘Kurma Kurnia Peribadi’ as the holy month of Ramadhan comes closer.
Delivering a sabda during the official distribution ceremony for the dates – which are personal gifts of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam – at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jalan Perdana Menteri yesterday, His Royal Highness said public grievances on the non-receipt of the dates should not arise.
His Royal Highness, who is also Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Committee of Governors, the organisation responsible for the annual distribution of the dates, also mentioned that in ensuring a clear-cut distribution, Yayasan has successfully introduced a number of initiatives such as the issuance of acknowledgement of receipt forms, which he said will ensure a more ideal, organised and systematic distribution system.
However, His Royal Highness said that these efforts may be in vain without the support and cooperation from mukim penghulus and village heads.

“I have come to learn that some grassroots leaders are not giving the cooperation expected of them,” he said, while reminding that the trust given to carry out their roles must be precisely executed, in ensuring His Majesty’s righteous wish to see the dates as part of the dish for breaking fast during Ramadhan reach all Muslim households in the country.
His Royal Highness later called on those relevant parties to sincerely carry out their responsibilities as well as possible, in order to attain rewards from Allah the Almighty.
Some 154 metric tonnes of dates (513,000 small boxes weighing 300 grammes each) supplied by Al Madinah Dates Company, Saudi Arabia will be distributed to Muslim households in the country over the coming weeks.
