THE Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong as the Acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports on Sunday officiated the opening of the 24th Brunei Masters Open Athletics Championship.
The championship began on Saturday.
The track and field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas became the focal point of athletes from several Asian countries. More than 200 athletes comprising senior citizens from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Labuan, Republic of Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan and India took part in the championship.
The country is represented by the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Athletics Association.
The championship is divided into more than 20 events according to age categories. It aimed to foster the spirit of solidarity and close relation among the athletes towards a healthy citizen.
