HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday afternoon consented to watch the polo match of the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, held at the Equestrian Park Putrajaya between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
His Majesty was greeted upon arrival at the Equestrian Park Putrajaya by Dato Mohd Moiz bin Jabir Mohd Ali Muiz, President of Royal Malaysia Polo Association and later watched the polo match between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
Among the players participating for the Brunei Darussalam polo team were His Majesty’s children – His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah.
Present to watch the tournament were His Majesty’s brothers – His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, Manager of the polo team.
In the match, Brunei team defeated the Singapore team by 10-8 in Four Chukka to win the bronze medal.
Also in attendance accompanying His Majesty at the event were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof; and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha.
