Dinner reception marks 23rd ASCOJA Conference

IN CONJUNCTION with 23rd Asean Council of Japan Alumni (ASCOJA) Conference, a dinner reception was held last night at Indera Kayangan Hall, The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Jerudong.

Attending the reception was the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman as well as former Prime Minister of Japan Fukuda Yasuo; Parliment Vice-Minister of Japan, Iwao Horii; Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, Motohiko Kato; as well as senior officials from Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and participants of the conference.

The reception saw speeches given by Motohiko Kato, Yasuo Fukuda as well as Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi, where the latter highlighted the spirit of cooperation and collaboration between Brunei and Japan in various fields.

“I hope that ASCOJA can continue to play the role as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to facilitate people-to-people exchange between Asean member countries with Japan as a partner, thus promoting understanding between people from different background, culture and nationalities,” Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi said in his speech.

The event continued with the presentation of token of appreciation to the Minister of Education by Motohiko Kato and presentation of certificate to the President of Brunei Association of Japan Alumni (BAJA), Dr Chin Wei Keh in his capacity as chairman of the ASCOJA Conference by Iwao Horii and a cake cutting ceremony.

Carrying the theme ‘Enriching Asean-Japan Relations through Culture, Education and Economy’ the 23rd ASCOJA Conference aimed on exploring potentials areas for further collaboration among Asean and Japan through various stakeholders especially those from non-government organisations, academic community and private sectors.
