IN AN effort to raise the university’s international reputation, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Sharjah (UoS), United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The ceremony took place at the Chancellor Office of University of Sharjah where the agreement was signed by Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA and Professor Hamid M Al-Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Haji Mohd Yusra bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the UAE; Dr Haji Mohammad Hussain bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Deputy Rector of UNISSA; Dr Azme Haji Matali, Director of Maddhab Shafi’i Research Centre and other officials.
Under the MoU, the two universities agreed to cooperate in academic fields, mobility of students/staff programme in the field of Islam and other areas that can be developed.
After the signing of the MoU, the UNISSA delegation held a discussion with Professor Awad Al-Khalaf, Dean of Shariah and Islamic Studies College at UoS, and Dr Ibrahim Ali Al-Mansoori, Executive Director for Studies and Research in Islamic Finance at UoS.
The institutions agreed to accept UNISSA students in the Study Abroad Programme for a year and provide training to UNISSA academic staff and government officers.
UoS has 14 faculties and offers 80 diploma, degree, master’s and PhD programmes in various fields. About 14,000 students are currently enrolled in the UoS which has more than 700 academic staff.
