A TOTAL of 44 young Tae Kwon Do members from yellow belt to junior black belt participated in the first In-House Poomsae Competition organised by 018 Tae Kwon Do Academy at 018 Mixed Martial Arts Academy (MMA) at Pelangi Complex, Delima.

The founder of 018 MMA, Master Haji Ismadey bin Haji Hussin is a certified Kukkiwon (Korea) International Instructor and has been teaching the martial art for almost 20 years. He is also an International Sport Kickboxing Association (ISKA) Ring certified Head Coach of Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) referee.

The academy was established in 2016 in line of pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle, aiming to train its members to be physically and mentally positive through the practice of martial arts.

The main objectives of its first in-house Poomsae competition were to drive the young members to step outside their comfort zone and to challenge their skills and confidence. The ultimate goal of the competition is not to pick winners but to see students exiting the ‘Dojang’ with learning curves and rooms to grow as a better sportsman with improved character. The academy also instills the value of teamwork among the members.

The competition had two events; Individual event and Team event, which saw participants divided into three age categories; four to six years, seven to nine years and above 10 years. Participants were awarded with Medal of Participation and Certificate, Medal of Commendation and Certificate to Individual and Team event winners.

The competition saw 17 winners for the Individual event and nine winners for the Team event. The Most Valuable Players (MVP) went to Awangku Luqman Amri Al-Hakeem bin Pengiran Ali Shafie (Male) and Hayley Wong (Female), who were judged based on sharpness, accuracy, willpower and confidence. The academy hopes to organise the In-House Poomsae Competition annually with the expectation to see an increase in member participations and also bringing in sponsors in future.
