SOME 60 foreign media representatives have registered to document the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne, according to the event’s Media and Publicity Working Committee yesterday.
The government has set up a large media centre located at the Youth Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan to help facilitate their work and to better accommodate the local and foreign media covering the historic event.
According to Hajah Rabi’atul ‘Adawiyah binti Haji A Ahmad, an official from the Information Department who is representing the Media and Publicity Working Committee, the facilities provided at the media centre include a press working area, high speed Internet connection, media secretariat, services desk (registration, media poll, in-country tour, transport and IT helpdesk), shuttle bus/van service (LTAB – hotel – media centre – event locations), meeting room, prayer hall, cafeteria and a free flow of refreshments.
Various agencies were involved in setting up the services available at the media centre, including the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Information Department, e-Government National Centre, Department of Electrical Services, Public Works Department and Youth Centre.
The media centre is open to the local and foreign media from October 3-7 from 8am to 10pm.
Forty volunteers comprised of registered participants of the Graduate Civic Village Programme and some members of the public were also on hand to help out at the media centre.
