THE Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs organised mass Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at all government education institutions and private schools throughout the country yesterday to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne as the 29th Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, with several schools serving as focal points for the prayers in each district.
The religious ceremonies were aimed at seeking Allah the Almighty’s blessings and protection as well as to realise His Majesty’s titah calling for a transformation of the country into a Zikir Nation.
The ceremonies were also meant to further enliven His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee Celebration and to encourage the country’s youth – especially students – to perform their religious obligations dutifully.
The ceremonies commenced with mass Sunnat Hajat prayer, a Selawat recitation, readings of the Surah Al-Mulk and Surah Al-Waqi’ah, followed by a Doa Kesyukuran.
In the Brunei-Muara District, the Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre served as the focal point venue.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman as the guest of honour.
For the Tutong District, the ceremony focal point was Tanjong Maya Secondary School, with Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education attending as guest of honour.
For Belait, the prayers were held at Sayyidina Ali Secondary School and attended by Deputy Permanent Secretary Nadia Lee Siew Hoon binti Abdullah as guest of honour.
Meanwhile, the focal point for prayers in the Temburong District was Rataie Primary School. Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), attended the event as the guest of honour and a representative from Temburong District.
Schools and higher education institutions also organised several activities to further enliven His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
Among these include exhibitions to showcase the monarch’s legacy, quizzes, art and photography competitions, as well as writing and colouring competitions.
