DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean highlighted that his charges stuck to every detail during his team’s 7-1 win over Garena Young Lions in the Great Eastern-Hyundai S League at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last Saturday.
He revisited the importance of attention to detail following the back-to-back encounters against Hougang United FC last month.
The head coach saw his charges setting their biggest win of the season but it was not all plain smiling after needing a late goal in the first half to soothe any nerves.
“It really was a strange game. First half I thought we were poor and in the second half we were superb.
“The key was grabbing control,” Kean told the S League.
DPMM FC had too much firepower for the struggling Young Lions who collapsed as Rafael Ramazotti and Adi Said netted hat-tricks.
Midfielder Azwan Salleh replaced foreign import Vincent Salas in a sole second half change and was part of the team that made a difference from a narrow score-line to a rout.
“We had control in the second half and the substitutes listened. The game plan in the second half we really stuck to every detail and the players deserve credit for that,” concluded the head coach.
Meanwhile, Kean’s opposite number Vincent Subramaniam indicated that the hosts had been knocking on their door for quite some time after keeping them only a goal down in the break.
“DPMM FC came out strongly in the second half. We managed to hold the game until 44 minutes then in the second half when three goals went in, the team sort of collapsed.
Only captain Shahrin Saberin, Amirul Adli Azmi and 18-year old Hami Syahin could be considered as players boasting relative S League experience with most of the young players only playing a number of games.
“That normally happens when you play with a lot of young players. They can’t hold that kind of game,” Vincent said who took over the hot-seat in July following an interim spell by Richard Tardy.
“When you lose 7-1, there is nothing positive to take out of the game. We just have to recover and get back into the next game starting brand new.
“We need to learn from the mistakes and try to be mentally stronger,” concluded the two-time S League Coach of the Year.
