BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sports, was honoured with the Asean Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (RDPE) Leadership Awards at the 10th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE), at JW Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The award is Asean’s recognition of private sector involvement for their contribution in rural development and poverty eradication in the region which has helped provide access and opportunities, while empowering the people to provide for themselves.
BIBD was nominated as a result of its efforts in supporting, developing and progressing members of the Bruneian community, especially those in rural areas. BIBD’s initiatives such as its ALAF programme and Sirah Amal were lauded as supporting the country’s efforts towards increasing the standard of living.
BIBD Deputy Managing Director Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman said, “Alhamdulillah, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and His Majesty’s Government for their continuous support and collaboration to, together, contribute to the development and improve of the quality of living in Brunei Darussalam, in line with Vision 2035.”
