HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam yesterday consented to grace the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony to mark the Golden Jubilee of the monarch’s Accession to the Throne.
Accompanying Their Majesties were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah binti Dato Haji Nasir; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.
Their Majesties were greeted on arrival by Co-Chairpersons of the Executive Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, and Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong; and Co-Advisors of the Executive Committee for the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, Grand Chamberlain Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, and His Majesty’s Private and Confidential Secretary Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Mohd Nawawi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Haji Awang Mohd Taha.
Also greeting the royal family were Co-Chairpersons of the Executive Committee for the Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, and Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud.
Yesterday’s ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti followed by the mass recitation of Surah Adh-Dhuhaa to Surah Al-Masad by Khatam participants as well as the recitation of Takhtim by female officers of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
Following the recitation of Doa Khatam by Khatam participant Awangku Muhd Adibul Amin bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, a Dikir Marhaban was performed by male officers from the Department of Islamic Studies and MoE. To bless the ceremony a Doa was read by the State Mufti.
A total of 1,500 participants (750 male and 750 female) comprising government officers including uniformed personnel, students from local higher education institutions, government scholarship graduates from abroad, representatives of non-government organisations and Brunei Assets Company (GLC) as well as community representatives, citizens and residents of the country participated in the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony.
The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony to commemorate His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee served as a pesambah from the citizens to the fair and just ruler who is very much loved by the people and a platform to seek Allah the Almighty’s blessings for His Majesty’s longevity, good health and continued rule.
It also served as an occasion for the citizens to express their gratitude towards Allah the Almighty for blessing the Sultanate to always remain in peace and tranquility under the wise leadership of His Majesty.
The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was organised by the committee of the Sektoral Rancangan-Rancangan Keugamaan dan Majlis Kesyukuran Sambutan Jubli Emas.
