HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam last night consented to present the Golden Jubilee Polo Cup to His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, a representative of the winning team Brunei 1 who won the Golden Jubilee Polo Tournament, held in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club.
Present at the prize presentation ceremony was Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam.
Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; as well as other members of the royal family.
His Majesty also presented prizes to the runners-up of the Golden Jubilee Cup as well as Selangor as winners of the 40th Anniversary Trophy.
His Majesty also presented souvenirs to participants of the exhibition game before receiving a souvenir from Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah.
The monarch also presented souvenirs to the referees and umpires of the exhibition match who included His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah and Dato’ Mohamed Moiz bin JM Ali Moiz.
Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, who is the President of the Royal Brunei Polo Association acknowledged His Majesty’s passion for the game in her sabda.
“This successful event could not have been possible without His Majesty’s passion for the game and unwavering support over the past 40 years,” said the president in her sabda.
“Over the last four days, we have witnessed excellent sportsmanship from all the players. A tremendous spirit of friendship has been clearly evident throughout the games.”
