AFTER raising $55,000 for Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) last year, Fitness Zone’s She Runs 2016 is looking to build on this success with the support of Brunei Press as the official and exclusive print media partner, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday at the Fitness Zone branch in Serusop.

With the aim of gathering Brunei’s women from all walks of life to raise awareness on female empowerment and also to give back to the society, the second all-female charity run, with the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam, is expected to take place on May 15. Online registration at sheruns.com.bn has commenced and will conclude on April 10, while the number of participants is limited to only 1,500 individuals.

In addition to YASKA, a non-government organisation that supports children diagnosed with cancer and their families while they undergo treatment, She Runs will also raise funds for the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD). “With advice from YASKA, we felt that it is timely to raise funds for SOBD, a non-profit, non-government organisation in need of funding,” commented Wu Chun during a press conference after the signing.

The international superstar also expressed his gratitude to Brunei Press for agreeing to work hand-in-hand to support the advocacy of empowering women.

“I am thankful that Brunei Press has come onboard and we hope that through the newspaper, we can disseminate information to the public,” he said.

Reggie See, the General Manager of Brunei Press, added: “Following the success of the inaugural She Runs event last year, whereby a total of $55,000 was raised for YASKA, we felt that the 2016 She Runs can grow to be a bigger event this year.

“In line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, we have been supporting various charity events in the country. Lately, there has been much emphasis on the importance of health and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)… Therefore, through this event, we hope to assist in endorsing and educating on the importance of health, fitness and sports for a healthier lifestyle.”

Also present yesterday were Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Mariam binti Pengiran Haji Matarsat, Vice President of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam; Hazizah Osman, the Deputy General Manager of Brunei Press; Suzie Houng, Senior Manager – Finance and Operations of Brunei Press; and Del Alfaro, the General Manager of Fitness Zone.
