TWO representatives from the Young Entrepreneurs Association Brunei (YEAB) participated in the Asean-Australia Entrepreneurs Business Forum 2017 in Melbourne on October 9.
President Hajah Norlela binti Haji Buang and Secretary Louis Loo were among the delegates selected to represent young entrepreneurs across the 10 member states.
Organised by the Australia-Asean Business Council (AABC) in collaboration with the Asean Young Entrepreneurs Council (AYEC), the forum saw young entrepreneurs from the regional bloc giving practical advice to Australian entrepreneurs.
They discussed opportunities for entrepreneurs from the dialogue partner country to enter Asean markets and how to pitch for success ‘the Asean way’.
Meanwhile, Australian executives from King and Wood Mallesons, CP Foods together with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission also provided their on-the-ground experiences doing business in Asean.
With a population of over 620 million, positive growth rates, rapid urbanisation and the creation of a single economic market, Asean presents a compelling business case.
AABC President Eleanor Mak said the “window for Australian businesses into Asean is now and the AABC is focussed on direct two-way engagement to facilitate trade, investment and business”.
On the sidelines of the forum, the AABC and the Victorian Government also arranged for the delegates to visit flagship entrepreneur and start-up hubs such as LaunchVic, StartupVic, International Food Showcase and the Food Innovation Centre.
“This trip has been valuable. We learnt about the Australian entrepreneur and start-up ecosystem, built relationships and explored ways to do business with Australian companies,” said Loo.
