KUPU SB inks MoUs, honours students

THE Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several higher education institutions around the region and feted 23 of its outstanding students in a ceremony yesterday evening.

Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, who is also Chairman of the KUPU SB Council, was present as guest of honour at the event at Tarindak D’Seni in Jalan Residency.

The event saw MoUs signed between KUPU SB and four higher education institutions from Asean, namely Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), Indonesia; Kolej Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (KUIPSAS), Malaysia; Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS), Malaysia; and Yayasan Mujamma’ Darul Hadith (YAMDAH), Malaysia.

Signing on behalf of KUPU SB was the Acting Ra’es of KUPU SB, Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, while the Asean institutions were represented by their senior officials.

In his welcoming speech, KUPU SB Acting Deputy Ra’es Dr Abang Haji Hadzmin bin Abang Haji Taha said the MoU signings will increase the scope of cooperation and sharing of best practices between KUPU SB and higher education institutions from neighbouring countries, apart from those in the country.

He explained that some of the cooperation will include the exchange of students and lecturers, exchange of publications, academic research collaboration programmes, the joint hosting of international seminars, and also other areas deemed beneficial for both sides.

Meanwhile, 23 outstanding KUPU SB students from the 2016/17 academic year received different awards and book prizes in the ceremony which also coincided with KUPU SB’s 7th Convocation Ceremony yesterday morning.

The Ra’es Award went to Mohammad Zaki bin Mohd Sofian, a final year student in the Religious Teaching (Usuluddin) Bachelor’s Degree programme.

The remaining outstanding Bachelor’s Degree and higher diploma recipients were honoured with KUPU SB’s Dean Awards, Dean Awards in the Education Field, and Dean Award in Curriculum and Extra-Curriculum.
