THE 6th Defence Policy Dialogue between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore took place yesterday at Temasek Club, Singapore.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam and Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary (Defence), Ministry of Defence, Singapore.
The two co-chairs reaffirmed the special and long-standing bilateral defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
Both co-chairs shared views on a wide range of regional security issues and reiterated their commitment in furthering bilateral defence cooperation.
Both co-chairs also discussed cooperation within the Asean Defence Minister’s Meeting (ADMM) platform as Singapore is set to assume chairmanship in the next year, according to a press release.
Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman also paid a courtesy call to Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence of Singapore yesterday morning. In the call, both sides expressed satisfaction on the excellent relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, and looked forward to more collaborative defence and military activities between the two countries.
As part of this visit, Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman and delegation also visited Changi Naval Base.
The Brunei delegation for the dialogue also included Colonel Haji Abdul Hadi bin Haji Saim, Chief of Staff of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Acting Director of Defence Policy; Lieutenant Colonel (U) Abu Husin bin Sahat, Brunei Darussalam Defence Adviser to Singapore and an officer from the Directorate of Defence Policy.
Initiated in 2009, the Defence Policy Dialogue (DPD) between Brunei Darussalam and Republic of Singapore serves as a regular forum for both countries to oversee the progress of the bilateral defence relationship, as well as explore new areas of defence cooperation. The DPD also gives an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on security issues of mutual interest.
