THE Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC) yesterday handed over a contribution to a family whose house was gutted by blaze on October 28 at Jalan Pelumpong, Muara. The fire affected the staff house of Azri bin Jumaat, who holds the position of Ordinary Seamen of BGC.
During the blaze, Azri was onboard Amali and waiting to be berthed in Japan on November 5. He was informed regarding the situation and will be flown home from Japan on Monday, November 6.
Receiving the aid on behalf of the family was Azri’s spouse, Toh Soon Dian @ Sara along with their four children.
The donation was presented by John Cook, Managing Director of BGC.
Currently, the family is residing in a temporary shelter while waiting for Azri to return from Japan.
Toh Soon Dian told the Weekend Bulletin that they need to find another house soon as they can stay only one week at their temporary residence. Not only that, they are also staying with the mother who is reitiring in December and her 27-year-old sister who suffers from Down syndrome.
With such donation, BGC hopes that it would ease the family burden. Members of the public who wish to make contribution can do so by contacting penghulu or village head of the affected area.
Although no fatality was recorded, the afternoon blaze rendered 31 individuals homeless.
