IN AN effort to raise public awareness on maintaining clean environment, some 20 canoe paddlers yesterday took part in a cleaning campaign drive at Sungai Kedayan of the newly launched Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.

The cleaning campaign also coincided with the launch of Kayak Brunei event that was initiated by Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the President of Brunei Darussalam National Canoe Association (BNCA) led the cleaning campaign at the river and picked up floating rubbish like plastic bottles, plastics and others.

Major (Rtd) Mohd Talip bin Haji Mohd Tahir, the Secretary General of the association said, “As a responsible user of the river or sea, we conduct this cleaning campaign to create awareness. As we also make use of the river for canoeing, it is important that we help keep the river clean especially at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas where it is a beautiful place for recreational activities.”
