IN A country where health services are free, people can help reduce the rising costs of medical and healthcare by adopting a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a clean and healthy living environment, said YB Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong, a member of the Legislative Council (LegCo) and the Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya.
In an interview with the Bulletin on the sidelines of a dialogue session between the Ministry of Health and the grassroots leaders in Tutong District, he noted that that the residents in Tutong District are fortunate to have a one-stop centre for specialist treatment at Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (PMMPMHAMB) Hospital in Tutong.
The hospital has a high-quality endoscopy clinic and a cataract surgery facility (under ophthalmology services). There is also a plan to develop urology services in the future at the hospital, the LegCo member added.
As a ‘Centre of Excellence,’ PMMPMHAMB Hospital renders high-quality specialised services not only for residents in Tutong District, but also for people from all parts of country, he said.
According to YB Haji Abdul Wahab, some of the issues raised during the closed door session included matters related to delivery wards that have been transferred to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, issues related to emergencies and those affecting residents living in remote parts of the district.
The dialogue session was held to recap the development of healthcare services in Tutong District and address issues that have emerged since the dialogue session held last year as a result of the consolidation and rearrangement of healthcare services.
Meanwhile, PMMPMHAMB Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Sofian bin Dato Paduka Haji Johar highlighted that as a Centre of Excellence, the hospital offers several specialty treatments.
PMMPMHAMB Hospital is a one-stop centre where patients are registered, diagnosed and treated under one roof, and offered specialist cataract surgery, endoscopy and gastroenterology services, he added.
