FIRST Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohammad Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence yesterday received an introductory visit from the Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Second Minister for Defence of the Republic of Singapore, Ong Ye Kung at the Bolkiah Garrison, Ministry of Defence (MinDef).
Upon arrival, Ong Ye Kung inspected the guard of honour mounted by personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Welcoming him was Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF; Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the MinDef; Service Commanders; deputy permanent secretaries; and both military and civilian directors.
According to a press statement, the deputy minister reaffirmed the mutually close and special ties between the two defence establishments, which has flourished across a range of extensive interactions.
They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concerns, and emphasised their continued commitment towards supporting defence initiatives in securing peace and stability in the region.
The visit is an extension of Ong Ye Kung’s working visit under the 5th Singapore Young Leaders’ Programme (SYLP) as part of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore and Coordinating Minister for National Security of the Republic of Singapore, Teo Chee Hean’s delegation.
Ong Ye Kung was accompanied by Lim Hong Huai, the Republic of Singapore’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam and Colonel Lee Yong Heng, Singapore Defence Attaché.
