Ammouta, Leong win Golden Jubilee Run

MOROCCAN runner Younes Ammouta added yet another accolade under his belt when he completed the male category of the Golden Jubilee Run yesterday with the time of 33 minutes and 40 seconds to claim first place ahead of local favourite Sefli Ahar who finished the race three minutes behind with the time of 36 minutes and 18 seconds.

Ammouta who also won the Larian Hari Keputeraan 2017 in September this year was in prime form.

In an interview, he said, “I feel great and the race was good. The organisation of the race was excellent where the route taken involving some of the new attractions in Bandar Seri Begawan like the new Raja Isteri Hajah Pengiran Anak Saleha Bridge and the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.”

He added that his next race will be the Temburong Night Run taking place in December.

Third place went to Haji Jubli bin Haji Pangip with the time of 36 minutes 33 seconds and fourth place went to Md Nor Isman who completed the race with the time of 36mins 55 seconds.

Md Samsul bin Zamri finished the race in fifth place with the time of 37 mins and six seconds. Shahrizal bin Uni, Md Shahazhar bin Abdullah Ahar and Md Azrol bin Haji Awang Aji, took sixth, seventh and eighth spots.

Meanwhile young and rising new long distance runner Leong Sheo Yee cross the finish line with the time of 56 minutes and 51 seconds to calm first place in the female category.

In an interview she said, “I am happy with the podium finish and I also felt tired.”

Leong, who is also a national athlete in sprint, added, “I have been training and changing from middle distance run to long distance run. It was tiring but the result pays off.”

The Universiti Brunei Darussalam student from Belait District is looking forward to her next event – Seni Bela Diri Run.

Second place went to Siti Fatimah binti Mohammad who finished with the time of 57 minutes and four seconds while Airincc Liam came in third place with the time of 57 minutes and 40 seconds.

Marnie claimed fourth place with 57 minutes 52 second and Jenny Tan completed her race with 58 minutes and six seconds to take fifth place.

Kathryn Deuerlein, Fatin Ismail and Koh Pey Tay took sixth, seventh and eighth place.
