MINISTER of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman yesterday mandated four key actions to be implemented immediately, at the Literacy and Numeracy Stakeholders Engagement.
These four mandates are – the Teaching for English Literacy and Mathematics Mastery Frameworks; alignment of the Teaching for English Literacy and Mathematics Mastery Frameworks to the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) framework; sharing and use of data effectively and; the continuous monitoring of all programmes by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure the intended outcome will be achieved.
The minister believes the Teaching for English Literacy and Mathematics Mastery Frameworks will help to set clear expectations for the effective teaching of English literacy and Mathematics in Brunei.
The framework is essential resource for English and Mathematics teachers to perform at a higher level.
The minister stressed the importance of using the Teaching for English Literacy and Mathematics Mastery Frameworks to ensure that “lessons at all Brunei schools will be lively, engaging and involve a carefully balanced blend of approaches that direct students’ learning to enable them to make good progress.”
Twenty-one local teachers were celebrated as they received their accreditation as coaches at this same event.
Two local coaches and a school headmistress shared their personal experiences in the programme, both giving constructive remarks.
Building the capacity of our teachers is the core of the LNCP (literacy and numeracy programme) and this accreditation is testament to that.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Permanent Secretary at the MoE Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoE Nadia Lee Siew Hoon binti Abdullah, senior MoE officers, heads of clusters, school leaders, local and international coaches, CfBT and LNCP team representatives.
