PEHIN Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan), presented $168,580 in donations to seven non-government organisations (NGOs), 45 mosques, suraus and prayer halls across the country yesterday.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Yayasan Complex in the capital.
Dato Paduka Haji Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Senior Trustee of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam (Pusat Ehsan), received $50,000 on behalf of the organisation.
Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei president, received $50,000 on behalf of the association.
Associate Professor Dr Haji Asbol bin Haji Mail, the Honorary Secretary of Brunei Historical Association (Pesebar), received $34,400 on behalf of the association.
This donation will be used to fund the publication of the association’s historical book, ‘Kegemilangan Pemerintahan’. The book is published in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers (Asterawani) received $12,000.
The donation will cover part of the association’s expenses in organising the ‘4th Assembly of Prominent Literary Figures and Experts’ (PSBNS) – a gathering for writers within the region – where Brunei Darussalam will be the host country.
The event, which will gather writers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, will be held from November 17 – 22.
Asterawani also received $5,000 from Yayasan for their expenses in organising the International Poetry Reading in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne. Receiving the donation on behalf of the association was Haji Jawawi bin Haji Ahmad, Head II of Asterawani.
Pengiran Haji Ali Hasan bin Pengiran Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abas, President of the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (Pestabaru) received $5,000 on behalf of the association for organising the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah 2017 Sepak Takraw Tournament held in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Rambli bin Pengiran Haji Bunut, Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) Chairman, received $6,330 on behalf of the organisation to fund the 10th Borneo Cup and Unified A Special Olympics tournament, which will be held in the country for the first time from November 16 – 19. Teams from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan and Kalimantan will participate.
Mohamad Hazrin bin Daud, Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council Vice-President, received $800 on behalf of the organisation, to hold the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council Forum to commemorate World AIDS Day 2017 on December 2. The forum aims to educate, provide exposure, and enhance awareness among the public on HIV and AIDS as well as its related social issues.
As part of initiatives to enliven the celebrations of Maulidur Rasul for the year 1439H/2017, 45 mosques, suraus and prayer halls across the country also received donations, which totalled $39,450: 17 mosques in the Brunei-Muara District received $15,300; mosques in the Tutong District received $13,200; $3,000 was contributed to the Belait District; while the Temburong District received $7,950.
